It was built following the huge success of producer Henry Leslie’s comic opera, Dorothy. it is considered the oldest operating theater on Shaftesbury Avenue. The Lyric Theatre was built as a result of the success that Henry Leslie who was the producer of the comic opera “Dorothy” had gained. The same “Dorothy” opera was the first performance at the Lyric Theatre. The Lyric Theatre was designed by C.J Phipps, the famous Victorian architect.
